Running Adventures and an Overactive Imagination

Last night I got a late start to my run because my husband was gone scouting bow hunting spots for us to use deer hunting. When he finally got home it was starting get dark but I laced up and headed out regardless.

As a female runner I feel like it is my job to make sure that I am aware of my surroundings and any dangers that might be lurking. I bring my dog as often as possible to help detract anyone that might be plotting evil and other animals that might be unfriendly. I try to be home before it gets dark and run with a flashing bracelet in winter. My music is only in one ear and always at a low volume so I can hear people and traffic approaching. I don’t rely on others to take care of me I do my best to vigilant and prepared for anything that might go wrong.

Last night when I headed out it was still light but about .25 miles from my house a man wearing a straw hat and looking a bit shady turned down the road behind my followed me on his bike for almost a mile. I was aware of him the whole time and even after he finally turned off the road I was still paranoid.

It was a good reminder that to take extra precautions. I was so glad that I told my husband what route I was running and how long I would be gone.

What is the creepiest thing you have ever had happen when running? What precautions do you take to stay safe?
